£35 MILLION FOR ADEBAYOR?

AC Milan are hatching a plan to lure Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Italy, according to reports. Il Corriere Dello Sport claims Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, who also has Gunners left back Gael Clichy on his radar, is devising a master plan to convince Arsene Wenger to part with the £35million-rated Adebayor. But the striker signed a long-term contract with Arsenal last summer after fervent transfer speculation, which was reported to have doubled his wages to £80,000-a-week. Adebayor, 25, is currently in Accra, Ghana, with the Togo squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Cameroon. Togo coach, Jean Thissen, risks sparking a club versus country row with Wenger by playing Adebayor in the match, as the striker has been out of action since the start of February with a hamstring problem.

Thissen said: 'Ade did not come here for nothing, he is here to play against Cameroon.

'He is the main man for the national team. He is my captain, the nation can count on him.

'He has always given his best for the country so he will be a boost to the squad. He is a wonderful player.'

Milan are poised to launch a spectacular £12million summer swoop for Clichy - after the Frenchman hinted he could be interested in a move to Italy.Ancelotti is understood to have identified the 23-year-old as Paolo Maldini's long-term replacement.Although Clichy insists he is enjoying life at Emirates Stadium, his appreciation of Milan's interest has left the door open for a bid.

'I am very happy at Arsenal,' Clichy said. 'It is true AC Milan are a great club. It is flattering to know you are followed by such a team.'

Clichy would join former England captain David Beckham at the San Siro if the France star completed the move to Italy. Former Manchester United hero Becks has secured a bizarre 'time-share' loan agreement between U.S. club LA Galaxy and AC Milan which has allowed him to remain in Italy. The Gunners, who lost Mathieu Flamini to the Italian giants last year, may also have to fend off interest in midfielder Amaury Bischoff, who has struggled to break into the first team following his move from Werder Bremen last summer.Pascal Granier, Bischoff's agent, said: 'We have clubs interested in Amaury, there are plenty of clubs in Europe interested in my players. I have links in France, Germany and even in England for my players. We just need to wait a bit and sit down with Bischoff and we will decide his future.'
